When you’re in the sun, the epidermis is bombarded by invisible rays of ultraviolet light. The UV light damages the cells on the surface, and after many years, the damage manifests in the skin with the formation of fine, red blood vessels and an increase in abnormal cells (potentially turning cancerous). Unfortunately, this increase in pigment is not uniform, and appears as liver spots, freckles, or sun spots; all names for solar lentigines. Laser Removal
Sun spot treatment can often be resolved with laser treatments such as the Alexandrite and Intense Pulse Light (IPL). Each treatment is noninvasive and all can safely and effectively remove discoloration. A typical treatment program includes two to four sessions performed at four week intervals.
Chemical Peels
Peels can improve the look of your skin as they are applied to the skin, allowing the top layers to dry up and peel off, creating new skin and reducing the appearance of brown spots on your face. Depending on your age spots, Dr. Brian Mekelburg offers glycolic acid peels and TCA chemical peels; both working to remove the layer of sun damaged skin.
Liquid Nitrogen
Liquid nitrogen may be applied to an individual sunspot. It freezes the surface cells, essentially, causing a controlled frostbite. Surface pigmented cells are destroyed, allowing them to dry up and peel off.
Bleaching Cream
